The Loss of a Child and the Family Grief

This video is about grief and family losses. Ibi’s family came to consultation in Rotterdam because of the severe depression of Mike for the death of his older daughter Nancy cause a rare disease; he is unable to cope with this loss and mother and his ten years old daughter Ibi are expected to support him emotionally. Mother Monique has a long term family” career” as a carer and has to rescue the husband from his total passivity and Ibi is already a parental child. In this outstanding session, Maurizio Andolfi with the help of Ibi explores father’s history of family losses and tragic events. Mike lost a sister too after a long illness because of a cancer and survived at ten years old when his home burst into flames. By joining with father’s impotence and grief, Andolfi was able to activate him and to provide a therapeutic space for grieving together over Nancy’s recent death.
